Two militants shot dead by AR and police

Imphal, May 22 : Troops of 14 Assam Rifles and Police Commandos of Imphal West, two hardcore cadres suspectedly belonging to the Islamic National Front, were gunned down at Kanglatongbi the PRO, Assam Rifles said during the past 24 hours.

Earlier, a cadre of Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) was also shot dead by Assam Rifles. Based on specific intelligence about certain militants involved in extortion, multiple ambushes were laid by the troops of 14 Assam Rifles along with the Imphal West, Commandos in General area of Kanglatongbi and Sekmai the PRO said.

Two suspected persons were seen approaching the petrol pump at Kanglatongbi yesterday and they resorted to indiscriminate firing when challenged by the troops and attempted to escape towards the fields. The ambush party along with police commando party chased the suspects and in the fire fight both the suspects were killed.

Search of the area was carried out which led to the recovery of two unidentified bodies of the slain cadres, one AK-47, one 9mm Chinese Pistol, three hand grenade, 31 rounds of assorted ammunition, one radio set, two pouches and an extortion note bearing insignia of Islamic National Front (INF).

FIR has been lodged with the Sekmai Police Station and the bodies alongwith the seized items handed over to the police authorities.

Senior Nepal rebel in Kathmandu to meet govt

Govt removes bill boards of King's quotations

Kathmandu, May 22: Three days after the historic proclamation of the parliament to limit the role of the King as a ceremonial head, Department of Information has started removing all hoardings bearing the quotations of King Gyanendra in various parts of the capital here.About 149 bill boards were installed here after the take over by king Gyanendra on February one last year, media reports said.Each bill board costs Rs 11,000, it is said.''We have decided to.....

Zeliangrong Baudi wants Railway line via Jalukie

Kohima, May 22 : Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB), the apex traditional body of the Zeliangrong tribes, has appealed to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for diversion of Jiribam-Tupui Rail head to the earlier proposed Diphu-Karong via Jalukie under the Peren district of Nagaland.In a letter to the Union Minister ZB President Dennis Elung and Press Secretary Kedi Haralu stated that the railhead from Diphu (Asom) to Karong (Manipur) via Jalukie was inaugurated on November 07, 1998 by the then Union Railway Minister.....
