Three die, two injured after being run over by DTC bus

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Three persons died while two others were injured when a DTC bus ran over them in Northwest Delhi early today, police said.

The five persons, including two women, were crossing the road after alighting from a Punjab Roadways bus at Makarba Chowk when the DTC bus, plying at the Outer Ring Road crushed them, the police said.

The bus driver has been arrested by the Jahangirpuri police.

Bhopal, May 22 (UNI) Unseasonal rain, in the usually-scorching month of May, has weakened the summer's grip over Madhya Pradesh. A weather centre official said an upper air cyclonic circulation over the state's north-eastern part, coupled with moisture-laden winds, was causing the precipitation. Day temperature plummetted by about five notches in most parts of Madhya Pradesh and hovered between 34 and 39 degree Celsius while the minimum was in the 22-26 degree Celsius range. The.....

AP Govt gives Group Insurance to toddy tappers

Hyderabad, May 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government today issued orders introducing Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for toddy tappers in the state. The State Cabinet ratified the orders. The salient features of the scheme were that the government would pay Rs two lakh to the legal heir of deceased toddy tappers and Rs 50,000 to the toddy tapper in case of permanent disability. Likewise, Rs 10,000 would be paid to the toddy tapper in case.....

Ahmedabad, May 22 (UNI) Even as anti-reservation agitation in Gujarat entered the eighth day today, the Akhil Gujarat Vali (Guardians) Mahamandal jumping into the fray extending its support. Extending their full support to the medical students' agitation, Mamamandal leaders, Shankarbhai Patel and Priyavadan Shah, alleged the Gujarat Government had failed to fulfil its assurances made 20 years ago. Guj medics urge constitution of panel to resolve quota issue

Gandhinagar, May 22 (UNI) Agitating medical students and junior doctors today handed over a memorandum to Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma, urging the Centre to appoint a high-level committee of apolitical experts to find an early solution to the reservation issue. The agitationists urged the Centre to ask the committee to submit its report within 15 days, a spokesperson of the medicos told UNI.
