Tehri Dam may start power generation by June 15 : Shahi

Dehradun, May 22 (UNI) If technically every thing goes right, Tehri Dam would start generating 250 megawatt power by June 15, Union Power Secretary R V Shahi has said.

Mr Shahi who was in Tehri to inspect the dam and its under ground power house told reporters yesterday that the power generation would start from the fourth turbine of Tehri Dam project.

''After two weeks of power generation from the fourth turbine, the turbine three will also be started,'' he said.

He admitted that due to some technical reason there was a delay in the 400 MW power Koteshwar Dam project but it was being sorted out to begin the power generation in scheduled time.

''With this project, the country will start getting around 1000 MW power by this year,'' he said.

Asked whether a way for the vehicles was to be constructed over the dam, Mr Shahi said, two committees would be set up to see technical and security aspects and further decisions would be taken based on their reports.
