State to pay study expenses for exam toppers

Chennai, May 22 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced that the Government would bear higher education expenses of state and district toppers in the Plus Two examination.

In a statement here, he said it was during his earlier tenure in 1996 that the scheme to pay higher education expenses of first three toppers in Plus two and SSLC examinations, who had taken Tamil as a language, was introduced.

Accordingly, the Government would bear the entire expenditure of toppers in the Plus Two examination, the results of which were announced today, irrespective of the educational institution and the course they chose, he said.

He congratulated all the students who had successfully cleared the Plus Two exam.

Kodiyeri vows to free police from mafia influence
