SPL net up 33.1 pc at Rs 15.84 cr for fy06

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Faridabad-based garment manufacturer and exporter, SPL Industries Ltd (SPIL) today registered a net profit of 33.1 per cent at Rs 15.84 crore for the year ended March 31, 2006, as against Rs 11.90 crore last year.

The company's turnover was up by 48.2 per cent at Rs 253 crore as against Rs 171 crore in the last fiscal.

''The company has achieved its expansion plans and production targets well in time. In the fourth quarter the company produced 12.5 lakh units of garment pieces a month as against installed capacity of 11 lakh units per month,'' SPIL Managing Director Vijay Jindal said.

In view of the huge demand in change in tradition towards knitted garments in US markets, the company is further expanding its capacity to 15-16 lakh peices per month, he added.

Dhaka, May 22 (UNI) The SAARC countries here today began deliberations on the agenda of building a green and clean South Asia by jointly addressing the environmental problems -- from natural disaster to groundwater contamination and equitable sharing of water flows. Pakistani MoS Foreign Affairs leaves for Argentina, Mexico

Islamabad, May 22 (UNI) Pakistan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar today left for Argentina and Mexico for the inaugural rounds of high level bilateral political consultations, following President Pervez Musharraf's landmark visit to Latin American countries in December 2004. The Minister will participate in the bilateral political consultations in Buenos Aires and Mexico City on May 24 and 26 respectively. 12 candidates file nomination for K'taka Council elections

Bangalore, May 22 (UNI) A dozen candidates, including Council Chairman V R Sudarshan (Congress), have filed their nominations for the June one election to the Karnataka Legislative Council from the State Assembly to fill 11 seats. The ruling coalition partners, Janata Dal (S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the main opposition Congress have nominated four candidates each for the biennial elections to the upper house.
