Shabir will not attend the Round Table conference

Srinagar, May 22: After both factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC), Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) too has decided not to attend the round-table conference to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on May 24-25.

We have decided to stay away from the conference, the DFP chief Shabir Ahmad Shah told UNI.

He said this decision was taken during the working committee meeting of the party.

Sudan prisoner release opens way for eastern talks

KHARTOUM, May 22 (Reuters) Sudan has released three members of the east's main political party, a key opposition demand before peace talks can be held in neighbouring Eritrea to end the simmering revolt, a party official said today. ''The three who were arrested about two months ago in Kassala were released yesterday,'' said Abdullah Moussa Abdullah, general-secretary of the Opposition Beja Congress Party in Port Sudan.
