Second car bomb kills three in Baghdad - police

BAGHDAD, May 22: A car bomb went off in a crowded street in southeastern Baghdad, killing at least three people and setting a building ablaze, police sources said.

One policeman said he saw at least three bodies lying on the road and four cars on fire after the explosion in the Zaafaraniya district. It was the second such attack today, two days after a new government was appointed. It came as British Prime Minister Tony Blair flew in to Baghdad for talks.

Montenegro independence referendum succeeds - official

PODGORICA, Serbia and Montenegro, May 22 (Reuters) More than 55 percent of Montenegrins voted for independence yesterday, achieving the majority set by the European Union for recognition of their referendum result, an official preliminary count showed. The referendum commission president, Frantisek Lipka, told a news conference on Monday that 55.4 percent of votes cast were in favour of ending the union with Serbia. Japan's MUFG posts Y1.18 trln profit, sees decline

Tokyo, May 22 : Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, the world's biggest bank by assets, posted an annual profit of 1.18 trillion yen (.52 billion) on Monday but forecast its earnings will slip this year as Japan's banks have largely tapped excess loan reserves that inflated recent profits.Group net profit at MUFG, which was created in a merger last October, compared with a combined 216 billion yen loss for its two predecessor banks in 2004/05 and but fell short of the 1.22.....

Coop loans for agriculture soon: Mani

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, May 22 (UNI) The agricultural cooperative banks in the state will soon start giving crop loans for the forthcoming agricultural season, Cooperatives and Statistics Minister Ko Si Mani has said. Speaking to newspersons at Kumbakonam, here, last night, Mr Mani said the DMK Government would stick to its election promise of disbursing Rs 1,000 crore in agriculture loans.Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced waiver of cooperative loans worth Rs 6,886 crore soon after assuming power......
