Patwari convicted for demanding bribe to manipulate land records

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) A CBI court today sentenced a 'Patwari' (record keeper with revenue department) to four years rigorous imprisonment and handed down a fine of Rs 15,000 for demanding a bribe to 'manipulate' land records.

Special Judge Sunil Gaur handed down the punishment to Patwari Rajpal for demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Krishan Kumar to mutate the land record in his favour and accepting Rs 2,500 as 'part payment' of the bribe in January 1997.

Even though both the complainant and 'punch' witness in the case had turned hostile, the judge based his order on the testimony of the 'raiding party'.

Rajpal was convicted under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Forest principal secretary asked to appear before HC
