Opposition stalls Parliament proceedings over price rise

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Both Houses of Parliament were today adjourned after a vociferous Opposition stalled proceedings over the UPA government's ''failure'' to check spiralling prices and rampant corruption during the two years of its rule.

While the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 1300 hrs, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were terminated till 1200 hrs.

As the both Houses assembled for the day, the Samajwadi Party members got up and started shouting slogans against the government which completed two years today.

The SP members in both Houses trooped into the well shouting ''Do saal ki yehi kamai, bhrashtachar aur mahangai (corruption and price rise are sole achievements of the UPA government in two years)''.

Main opposition BJP, the Telugu Desam Party and other opposition groups also joined the chorus of protest, though they did not enter the well of the House.

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat made repeated appeals to the members to calm down and raise their concern during the discussion on the price rise, slated later in the day.

However, an adamant opposition continued with slogan-shouting for ten minutes, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House till 1200 hrs.

The BJP members also attacked the government by shouting slogans like ''Jo mahangai rok na paye, woh sarkar nikammi hai (A government unable to curb price rise, is inefficient)''.
