One killed, four injured in Srinagar grenade attack

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) One person was killed and four others were wounded in a grenade attack on the outskirts of Srinagar city today, official sources said.

They said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a security vehicle at Soura, but the grenade missed the intended target and exploded near a passenger vehicle, causing injuries to five people, including a driver.

The injured were shifted to the nearby Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) where the driver, Farooq Ahmad Reshi, was declared brought dead.

Pilgrims rush in Tirumala; 70 hour wait for darshan

Tirupati, May 22 (UNI) There is no respite in the summer rush to the hill shrine of Tirumala, with pilgrims waiting for 70 long hours for free darshan and 50 hours for paid darshan of Lord Venkateswara. Besides imposition of 'Mahalaghu Darshan' (long view of the main deity), temple authorities have banned sale of cellar darshan tickets to avoid inconvenience to free darshan pilgrims,Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) said here today. Women Commission to issue fresh summons against Udit

Patna, May 22 (UNI) Bihar Women's Commission will issue fresh summons against noted playback singer Udit Narain after he failed to turn up before it today in connection with charges of bigamy levelled against him by Ranjana Jha, who claims to be his first wife. Women's Commission President Manju Prakash said Narain failed to turn up before the Commission in response to its earlier summon. She said the fresh summon would be the third one......

Naveen protests delay in solving RSP oustees, dashes letter to PM

Bhubaneswar, May 22 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today strongly condemned the Centre's apathetic attitude in resolving the rehabilitation issue regarding the Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP). In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Chief Minister said despite repeated requests from the state government, the Centre had not taken any step to rehabilitate 1098 families displaced by the RSP.
