NJMC workers withdraw hunger strike

Barrackpore, May 22 (UNI) National Jute Mill Corporation workers today withdrew their eight-day long hunger strike at Titagarh mill in North 24 Parganas after police intervention.

At least five workers, including a woman, resorted to strike demanding resumption of production in Khardah and Kennison jute mills and suspension of VRS from May 15.

Police have sent Md Salim (51), a worker, to the sub-divisional hospital after his health deteriorated.

Meanwhile, a Sub-divisional Magistrate met the striking employees in front of the Kennison jute mill and asked them to sit for discussion.

NJMC union, however, warned and said they would resume hunger strike if their demands were not met within next 13 days.

11 security personnel among 30 injured in Srinagar blasts

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) A day before the 2nd Round Table confernce to be held here on May 24-25, militants struck yet again today in a big way hurling three hand grenades in the city causing injuries to 30 people, including eleven security personnel. SIMI likely to be banned; UP against central move

Lucknow, May 22 (UNI) Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is set to be banned shortly with the Centre issuing a show cause notice to the organisation. However, the Uttar Pradesh government today clarified it would not support the centre's move. A state home department spokesperson said since the organisation was not involved in ''any activities'' and neither had it (UP) received any complaint against SIMI, UP would not support the ban. IIM-B not for increase in admissions

Bangalore, May 22 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), has ruled out enhancing the student strength beyond the planned intake for the next academic year. IIM-B Director Prakash G Apte told UNI that the Institute had already approved to increase the strength to 300 from the current level of 260. ''It's a planned increase...beyond this it will be difficult.'' He said though physical infrastructure was not a problem, the Institute was facing shortage.....
