Munda to receive Mother Teresa Millenium Award

Ranchi, May 22 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has been selected for the prestigious 'Mother Teresa Millenium Award' as politician of the year 2006.

The selection committee has shortlisted 39 other prominent personalities in the fields of education, culture, music, social work, sports, industry, media, medicine, best principal and best youth worker.

Besides, the 5th and 6th Mother Teresa International Awards will be presented to former South Africa President Nelson Mandela and jointly to late Princess Diana and Md Yunus of Gramin Bank Of Bangladesh, a release of the award committee said here today.

The award giving ceremony would take place on June 24 at Calcutta University Centenary Hall.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is expected to give away the awards while former Prime Minister V P Singh, Governors of West Bengal and Tripura are to garce the occasion as guests of honour.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, late Nepal King Mahendra and Senator Hillary Clinton were awarded by the committee for their struggle for peace and harmony and their continued service to the poorest of the poor in India and abroad.

Oil falls below $68 as commodity sell-off continues

LONDON, May 22 (Reuters) Oil prices fell below on Monday to a six-week low as concern that inflation may slow economic growth encouraged selling across commodities markets. U.S. crude was trading 76 cents lower at .77 a barrel at 1100 GMT, recovering some ground from an earlier dip to the lowest level since April 10. Brent crude was down 71 cents at .97. The drop added to a slide of nearly 5 percent.....

Hamas security force fights gunmen in Gaza City

GAZA, May 22 (Reuters) A new Hamas-led security force exchanged fire with gunmen near the Palestinian parliament in Gaza today in a fresh outbreak of internal violence, Palestinian security sources said. Two civilians and a policeman were wounded in the clashes, witnesses said. Witnesses said members of the new force set up by the ruling militant Islamic group returned fire as they took cover inside a building near parliament after coming under attack from unknown gunmen......

Microsoft sees no Vista delay from Symantec case

BEIJING, May 22: Microsoft Corp. said on Monday it did not expect a lawsuit to delay Vista, a new version of its Windows operating system.Last week Symantec Corp. sued Microsoft, accusing it of misappropriating trade secrets used in Vista.Asked whether the case would have any impact on the Vista roll-out, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer told Reuters: ''I wouldn't anticipate any, but that will go to the courts now.'' Ballmer, speaking in Beijing after a news conference, did not.....
