Medical services still hit in northwest

Chandigarh, May 22 (UNI) Medical services in most of the government and private medical colleges in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh remained adversely affected on the eighth consecutive day today as resident doctors and medical students continued with their stir against reservation.

At PGIMER here, though regular OPD and emergency services were affected but striking resident doctors ran parallel OPD in tents and examined 708 patients. In Government Medical College and Hospital medical services were hit, resident doctors and medical students took out a procession in the morning and decided to proceed on relay hunger strike from this evening.

In Amritsar, the strike affected OPD services at the Guru Nanak Hospital, SGPC run Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Services and Research and other medical institutions.

Medical services at Dayananad Medical College (DMC), Ludhiana were hit as students, doctors staged a dharna and took out a procession. However, Christian Medical College (CMC) continued to function normally.

At PGIMS, Rohtak agitation continued, 26 resident doctors and students proceeded on indefinite hunger strike.

The emergency and OPD services were hit in the two government hospitals in Patiala but protesting resident doctors and medical students run parallel OPD and examined the regular patients.

Kerala Minister moots North-South highway

Kottayam, May 22 (UNI) Kerala P W D Minister P J Joseph today said a new North-South highway would be constructed as part of the Road Network Development in the state. 50 of marriage party injured as lorry turns turtle

Mysore, May 22 (UNI) As many as 50 people belonging to a marriage party, including the bridegroom, were injured when a lorry in which they were travelling overturned near Anchehalli in Mandya district of Karnataka today. Police said the accident occurred when the lorry from Muddagere and Basaralu was proceeding to Kepphalli for the marriage ceremony. North East to become country's power house: CII report

Shillong, May 22 (UNI) The North Eastern region, with its huge hydro-power potential, can become the power house for the entire nation, according to a report by the Confederation of the Indian Industries (CII).
