Mallya eyeing overseas market

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) United Breweries Chairman Dr Vijay Mallya, who has over 60 per cent market share in the country's liquor market, today hinted at focussing on the global market.

''I need to look for new market to sustain the growth of United Breweries which produces, beer, vodka, whisky and has 60 per cent of country's market share,'' Dr Mallya said while talking to reporters at a function to announce the name of veteran actor Shilpa Shetty as ''brand ambassador'' for ''Romanov Vodka''.

''India has a good market strength and United Breweries already has a lion's share in it,'' he added.

He said he preferred Shilpa Shetty as brand ambassador instead of a ''macho male'' as she epitomises elegance and grace and meets the aspirations.

Speaking on the occasion, Shilpa Shetty said it was a pleasure to be associated with UB which is the industry leader today. ''I look forward to partnering with Romanov which is a responsible drink and so I took the offer of becoming brand ambassador.'' Dr Mallya said Romanov vodka which was there till 1977, was relaunched now and the triple-distilled drink will be available in two flavours.

Orissa police nab noted criminal Rajan Sanyasi

Rourkela, May 22 (UNI) Dreaded inter-state criminal Rajan Sanyasi and his associate Mahendra Tanti were arrested by a special police team of Sundergarh at Bagichapada, about 40 kms from here, yesterday, police said today. Police said Rajan was arrested after an encounter in which he sustained bullet injuries on his leg and body. He was taken to the Sundargarh Hospital for treatment. BSP MP's petition seeking quashing of FIR dismissed

Allahabad, May 22 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today dismissed the petition filed by BSP MP from Azamgarh Rama Kant Yadav for the quashing of FIR and stay of arrest in a criminal case. The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Amar Saran.
