Left concerned over increase in prices of essential commodities

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Left parties today expressed serious concern over the sharp rise in prices of essential commodities over the past two-year period of the Dr Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government leading to a rise in the sufferings of the poor.

The matter was raised through calling attention By Basudeb Acharia (CPIM) under rule 193 for discussion.

Initiating the discussion, Mr Acharia request the Chair to direct the Government to accept the suggestions submitted by the left parties for reduction of various duties on petroleum products instead of going in for a fresh price hike to save the common man from its price spiral effect.

He also stressed the need for strengthening the public distribution system to put a check on the rise of essential commodities.

Ajay Chautala questions CBI's impartiality

Kaithal, May 22 (UNI) Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Ajay Chautala, son of former Chief minister Om Parkash Chautala, today criticised the CBI for allegedly valuing the assets of the Chautala family at about Rs 1500 crore on the basis of a 'chargesheet' prepared by the Congress. Sehwag is in good form, says Dravid

St Kitts, May 22 (UNI) Stats might have been painting a different picture but Rahul Dravid is not ''very worried'' over Virender Sehwag's poor performance as for the Indian captain his beleagured deputy remains in ''good form''. NAIROBI, May 22 (Reuters) A United Nations court has rejected the transfer of a Rwandan genocide suspect's case to Norway, saying the country lacks a specific law against genocide. Michel Bagaragaza, a former director general of Rwanda's tea industry regulator, is accused of ordering subordinates to kill hundreds of Tutsis hiding in a cathedral and a factory during the 1994 slaughter in the central African nation. He surrendered last August and faces three counts.....
