Lalu demands production of all original documents

Patna, May 22 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, through a petition, demanded the special CBI judge of Patna Munilal Paswan to direct the investigating agency to produce original documents on basis of which the chargesheet was filed against him in a multi-crore fodder scam.

Chitaranjan Prasad Sinha, Counsel for Mr Prasad, argued that despite a clear cut direction of the court, the CBI did not submit all the original documents.

Deputy Law advisor of the CBI, L R Ansari, pleaded that almost all the original documents of the case had already been filed in the court and the rest would be submitted if they were required.

Mr Ansari requested the court to direct the accused people to continue arguments on their discharge petitions.

After hearing both sides, the special judge fixed June 7 as the next date of hearing the matter.

Earlier, 11 accused, including the Railway Minister and former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra had filed discharge petitions in the case related to fradulent withdrawal of over Rs 46 lakh from Bhagalpur and Banka treasuries of Bihar Animal Husbandry Department.

The case was registred in 1996. There are 40 accused in the case.

155,800 students appear for CET, 1738 remain absent

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) As many as 155,800 students from Maharashtra appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET) for health sciences, engineering, and pharmacy yesterday. The examination was held at 417 centres in 35 districts of the state, Dr W B Tayde,director of Medical education and Research said in a press release. Three killed, nine injured in road mishap

Nashik, May 22 (UNI) At least three people, including two women, were killed and nine others injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a gorge in Bokardara village of the district today. According to police, the mishap occurred when the Tata Sumo fell into the gorge after it was hit by a speeding truck while going to Aurangabad from Mumbai. Orissa proposes to set up a Health University

Bhubaneswar, May 22 (UNI) The Orissa government was seriously contemplating setting up a Health university in the state to provide a better medical education and management in the state. A meeting, chaired by State Finance Minister P C Ghadei, today decided to constitute a three-member committee to expedite the matter and submit a report to the government within a month.
