IIM, Ahmedabad to launch programme for training civil servants

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad proposes to start a one year post-graduate programme in Public Management and Policy from next year to train civil servants, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi told the upper house in a written reply that the Department of Personnel and Training of the union government would sponsor upto 25 candidates from Indian Civil Sevices out of an expected class size of around 50.

The programme starting in 2007-08 would have three components i.e Core Management module, a core Public Management and Policy module and Electives leading to concentration in a number of areas in public management and policy, he said.

The proposed programme also intends to cover the nature, causes and the remedies for corruption, he said.

Already, IIM, Ahmedabad has been training civil servants through short term programmes in various areas including development of management skills independently or as nominatees sponsored by DoPT, he informed.

IIM-B not to increase admissions for 2006-07

Bangalore, May 22: The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), has ruled out enhancing the student strength beyond the planned intake for the next academic year.IIM-B Director Prakash G Apte told UNI that the Institute had already approved to increase the strength to 300 from the current level of 260. ''It's a planned increase...beyond this it will be difficult.'' He said though physical infrastructure was not a problem, the Institute was facing shortage in faculty strength. Hence it was not.....

SC rejects Bail plea of Maxim editor in Khushboo case

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to grant anticipatory bail to the editor of English magazine ''Maxim'', Sunil Mehra, facing allegations of publishing obscene photographs of popular Tamil Nadu film actress Khushboo through superimposition. A vacation bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice R V Raveendran today declined to entertain the petition filed by Mr Mehra challenging the Madras High Court order dismissing his petition for anticipatory bail.
