Government to tackle terrorism with courage : PM

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asserted his government's resolve to face the scourge of terrorism with ''courage, conviction and determination''.

''Terrorism continues to pose a threat to our cohesiveness and national integrity and we will not compromise in our resolve to face it with courage, conviction and determination,'' the Prime Minister said speaking at the second anniversary celebrations of the UPA Government.

''This should be clear to one and all,'' he added.

''I do believe we have been able to handle internal security issues effectively and with greater sensitivitiy,'' Dr Singh said.

''The communal situation showed marked improvement and social and caste tensions were on a low key,'' he added.

About the Naxalite problem, the Prime Minster said ''better appreciation exists today of the dimensions of the Naxalite problem.'' He pointed out the government was adopting a two-pronged policy of combining effective police response and reducing a sense of alienation, especially among tribals.

Uday Kaul to lead north in Adhikari Trophy

Chandigarh, May 22 (UNI) Uday Kaul of Punjab will lead North Zone in the Hemu Adhikari Trophy for Under-19 tournament beginning in Bangalore on May 27. Announcing the team, Punjab Cricket Association secretary M P Pandove said that the Hemu Adhikari Tournament has assumed greater significance as the Indian Under-19 team for the England tour would be selected during the tournament.
