Girls outshine boys in Higher Secondary examinations

Thiruvananthapuram, May 22 (UNI) Girls bagged 17 out of 21 ranks and 217,012 students passed out of 366,523, registering a 59.21 per cent pass, 0.67 per cent less than last year, in the Higher Secondary examination results announced by Education Minister M A Baby today.

Mr Baby announced that this year's results would be the last to use the rank system and from next year it would be a grading system.

Of the total 297,754 regular students, who appeared in the exam, 191,962 came out successful, recording 64.47 per cent. While 36,539 students got distinction, 74,347 students got first class.

Forty schools registered hundred per cent success, while 33 schools in the State could make only below ten per cent.

Out of 190,729 girls, 123,378 came out successful that included 23,406 distinctions and 44,353 first classes.

Boys recorded 53.26 per cent pass and 93,634 passed out of 175,794 that included 13,123 distinction and 29,994 first class.

Prabha Chandran of Government BHSS, Neyyattinkara bagged the first rank in Science group with 585 marks. The second rank was shared by Serin M S of GGHSS, Cottonhill, Thiruvananthapuram and Shahna M S of Government MBHSS, Attingal with 584 marks each.

The third rank was shared by three, Krishna N W of Govt HSS North Paravur, Abraham Niby Francis of St Thomas HSS, Pala and Sawan George of St Thomas College HSS, Thrissur with 583 marks each.

Jalpna L Motta of Sacred Heart HSS, Thevara and N R Anitha of Sacred Heart CGHSS, Thrissur shared the first rank in Commerce group with 580 marks. The second rank went to Reetha Annai Saji of St Thomas HSS Eruvallipra, Pathanamthitta scoring 579 marks.

Third rank was shared by Devi S and Niranjana K V of SNM HSS Maliankara Ernakulam with 578 marks.

The first three ranks in Humanities group went to girls.

Dhanya Sankar K S of CG HSS Vadkkancherry, Palakkad won the first rank with 571 marks, Supriya Balachandran won the second rank with 564 marks and Belga Marriya Berk got the third rank with 563 marks.

Other ranks: Technical Group : Faseela K (first rank-THSS, Vattamkulam, Malappuram), Vijay George (second rank-MT HSS Kaloor, Ernakulam) and Bhadra Babu Anchalassery (third rank-MT HSS Kaloor, Ernakulam).

Arts Group: Salini P S (first), Abhimanyu V (second) and Nayana R Raj (third) all from Kalamandalam Arts HSS.

North East to become country's power house: CII report

Two Knowledge Commission Members resign in protest over quota

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Two members of the Knowldge Commission -- Pratap Bhanu Mehta and Andre Beteille-- today quit their posts in protest against the Government's move to introduce quota in higher educational institutions. French delegation in India

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) A 30-strong French delegation comprising of MPs and Defence Ministry officials have arrived in the country for an annual training session to acquire a better overall vision of international issues. The delegation, which includes representatives from the Foreign and Home Ministries, will attend a series of seminars and conferences during their 6-day stay in India, according to the French Embassy here.
