Girls outperform boys in Gujarat Board HSC exam

Ahmedabad, May 22 (UNI) The girls have outshone boys in Gujarat Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) General Stream Examinations in almost every department, the results of which were declared today.

There were more boys (1,35,023) than girls (1,06,222) who wrote the examination held in March, but the overall pass percentage of the girls was 93.11 per cent as against boys's 84.76.

In the merit list too, as many as 14 girls as against just five boys made it to the top ten ranks (some bracketed). The first two positions were also cornered by the girls.

Bhavini Dipakbhai Ranpara of Rajkot has stood first with 94.27 per cent marks and Palak Mihirbhai Gandhi of Vadodara second with 93.47 per cent. Jayesh Narshibhai Hirani of Bhavnagar, who stood third in the board with 93.33 per cent marks, scored the highest among boys.

There is a vast improvement in the overall pass percentage in this year's HSC, also called Ten Plus Two (10+2). It was 88.50 per cent March this year as compared to 77.84 per cent March last year.

However, no district-wise results were available. The highest was in a comparatively backward district of Sabarkantha (97.42 per cent) and the lowest was also in a backward district of Dahod (69.71 per cent).
