Fair polls not possible under Mulayam regime: Apna Dal

Allahabad, May 22 (UNI) Apna Dal today alleged that free and fair elections to Uttar Pradesh assembly were not possible under the regime of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Talking to newsmen here, Apna Dal national president Sone Lal Patel said the SP government should be dismissed before the assemly polls and elections held under Presidents' rule.

''Previous experience have shown that whenever polls -- whether zila panchayat or gram panchayat -- were held under Mr Yadav's regime, they were never free and fair,'' he alleged, adding Mr Yadav openly used muscle and money power and government machinery to his advantage.

On reservation to OBCs in premier educational institutions, Dr Patel said socialy, economically and politically weak among the backwards and dalit community must benefit from quota.

''Our party is in favour of reservation to backwards in premier educational institutions,'' he said.

The Apna Dal chief claimed the plea of some people that reservation would cast a bad effect on intellectual students was wrong. ''Only intellectuals sitting on top posts are opposing it.'' He lamented that all political parties -- which came to power in UP -- did nothing for the development of the state and upliftment of people. ''Their only motto is how to plunder government money.''
