Conference of Chief Registrars of births and deaths on May 23-24

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The two-day annual National Conference of Chief Registrars of Births and Deaths will begin here tomorrow.

Apart from Chief Registrars of Births and Deaths of the States, Principal Secretaries/Secretaries looking after the births and deaths of ten states, representatives of UNICEF, Plan India, officials of the Registrar General, India and Directorates of Census Operations will also participate in the conference.

The Conference will be inaugurated by Secretary (Border Management) B S Lalli.

The Conference will review over the progress with regard to registration of births and deaths and the steps required to improve it.

It will also discuss the scheme of Medical Certification of causes of deaths as well as the need for regular monitoring of the sex ratio during birth by the states.

Six killed, 15 injured in bus accident in HP

Nahan, May 22 (UNI) At least six people were killed and 15 others were injured, four of them seriously, when a bus carrying them fell into a gorge at Khari in Sirmour distrist of Himachal Pradesh today. Police said four of the seriously injured have been referred to PGI hospital in Chandigarh, while the others have been admitted in a government hostpital here. The cause of the accident was not immediately known, the police said.....

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) One person was killed and four others were wounded in a grenade attack on the outskirts of Srinagar city today, official sources said. They said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a security vehicle at Soura, but the grenade missed the intended target and exploded near a passenger vehicle, causing injuries to five people, including a driver. Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) A Kashmiri driver was killed and five tourists, including two brothers, from Madhya Pradesh were wounded in a grenade attack in the outskirts of Srinagar city tonight, official sources said. They said militants hurled a grenade on a vehicle carrying the security force personnel at Soura at around 2045 hrs tonight.
