City court sentences two to life imprisonment in murder case

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) A city court today sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for brutally murdering a 72-year-old-lady in the broad daylight in Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi three years ago.

Patiala House Court Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar held Rehman, 30 and Abdul, 31 of Dinazpur, West Bengal guilty of murdering Harbansh Kaur and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Apart from life imprisonment, the court further slapped a fine of Rs 6000 on both.

The complainant Gurbachan Singh, 77, the husband of the deceased deposed in the court that, he along with his wife and one Rinku was staying in his Malviya Nagar flat.

Rehman was engaged for construction work of his flat on April 26 along with Mohd Asir and Kasim, according to the prosecution.

On April 29, 2003, at about 1200 hrs, when Harbansh Kaur was alone in the house, the accused began to ransack the house for jewellery, cash and other valuables. When Harbansh tried to protest, the two with the help of close associate Mohd Asir and Kasim strangulated her neck. She was later declared brought dead at the Safdarjung hospital. There were sixteen Prosecution Witnesses in the case.

Mohd Asir and Kasim were declared as Proclaimed Offender (PO) by the court.

Rehman and Abdul were convicted under sections 302 (murder), 394 (person voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (common intention to commit a crime) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

BMC removes 4,00,850 cubic meter silt from Mithi river

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today said that it had removed four lakh and 850 cubic meter silt from Mithi river. Government declined to set up price stabilisation fund for petroleu

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) The Government has rejected the proposal for the setting up of a " Price Stabilisation Fund" from the money raised through cess on crude to stabilise the prices of petroleum products in the country.
