Children film festival begins

Imphal, May 22 : The Manipur Film Development Corporation Ltd. (MFDC) and Children's Film society, India, Mumbai are jointly organising a children's Film Festival at Imphal from today onwards at three different venues of Imphal East and West.

Various national, international award winning and good films will be screened. Children/students of various schools were also invited for the festival which is aimed to disseminate good knowledge/ wisdom and ideas to the children through film the MD of the MFDC, Sobita said.

Anthony D Souza of the Society said about ten films will be screened. The idea of organising such a festival was to inculcate the value of cinema among children, he said. The Children Film Society was the brain child of Chacha Nehru the first Prime Minister of India he said.

The MD of MFDC, Sobita said about 40 schools of Manipur were contacted and all of the response was overwhelming. It will be a regular festival and this time it will be organised in two districts of Imphal while in the next phase it will be organized in other districts and interior parts she said.

Zeliangrong Baudi wants Railway line via Jalukie

Kohima, May 22 : Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB), the apex traditional body of the Zeliangrong tribes, has appealed to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for diversion of Jiribam-Tupui Rail head to the earlier proposed Diphu-Karong via Jalukie under the Peren district of Nagaland.In a letter to the Union Minister ZB President Dennis Elung and Press Secretary Kedi Haralu stated that the railhead from Diphu (Asom) to Karong (Manipur) via Jalukie was inaugurated on November 07, 1998 by the then Union Railway Minister.....

NSF Federal Assembly at Mao Gate on June 22

Kohima, May 22 : The Naga Students Federation (NSF), the apex Naga students' body of all Naga Students' Union of North East India, will have its Federal Assembly on June 22 next at Mao Gate under Senapati district of Manipur.According to NSF Speaker W H Maring here today the third Federal Assembly of 2005-2007 will be hosted by the Mao Students' Union at Mao gate, where all the federal units of the Naga students from all over India will participate......

Government removes bill boards of King's quotations

Kathmandu, May 22 (UNI) Three days after the historic proclamation of the parliament to limit the role of the King as a ceremonial head, Department of Information has started removing all hoardings bearing the quotations of King Gyanendra in various parts of the capital here. About 149 bill boards were installed here after the take over by king Gyanendra on February one last year, media reports said. Each bill board costs Rs 11,000, it is said......
