Chandigarh to host Asia Cup Twenty20 cricket

Chandigarh, May 22 (UNI) The Indian Twenty20 Cricket Federation Secretary general Piyush Rana today announced the hosting of the first edition of the Asia Cup Twenty20 Cricket Championship in Chandigarh.

Mr Rana said the Asia Cup had been allotted to the Chandigarh Twenty20 Cricket Association as the cricket and allied facilities in the Union Territory were excellent.

The Asia Cup will be hosted in November-December this year.

Countries expected to compete include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. More countries are likely to compete in Chandigarh, according to Piyush Rana.

Thanking the federation for allotting the Asia Cup, CTCA president I D Kamboj said twenty probables would be selected and 20 more players would be chosen from Super Zone-II to be held very soon. All the selected players will attend the National Camp at Panchkula. And top 25 players will be selected and sign the central contract with the ITCF as per rules and regulations.

Chandigarh will also play host to the All India Under-19 National Twenty20 Cricket Championship in October, 2006. The ITCF secretary general said that the North Zone Senior Twenty20 Cricket Championship would also be held at Chandigarh and tentative schedule for the same will be released very soon by the Chandigarh Twenty20 Cricket Association.
