Bengal receives 3.23 pc of total FDI in India in '05

Kolkata, May 22 : West Bengal received 3.23 per cent of the total foreign direct investment received by India in 2005 as compared to 1.32 per cent of the total FDI investment received by the country in 2004, according to the quaterly bulletin on investments, industry and trade compiled by the state directorate of Industries.

The state received nine FDI approvals entailing an investment of Rs 254.88crore in 2005 as compared to 36 FDI approvals involving Rs 115.41 crore investment in 2004, the report said.

The notable FDI approvals included Alstom Ltd's project for manufacturing of electrical equipment for use in transmission and distribution of electricity.

The other FDI approval was granted in the mining sector to Visa International Ltd involving foreign equity of Rs 173.76 crore.

The important approvals also included Visa International's chrome concentrated grinding plant involving foreign equity of Rs 57.31 crore.
