155,800 students appear for CET, 1738 remain absent

Mumbai, May 22 (UNI) As many as 155,800 students from Maharashtra appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET) for health sciences, engineering, and pharmacy yesterday.

The examination was held at 417 centres in 35 districts of the state, Dr W B Tayde,director of Medical education and Research said in a press release.

He said 1738 students were absent for the examination. ''The Directorate had advertised in different newspapers requesting students to leave their homes early in order to reach the exam centres on time due to the Western Railway mega block,'' Dr Tayde said.

The examination result will be declared by June 14, he said, adding the students will be notified through notices in newspapers.

National Sample Survey Organisation teams to tour villages

Badwani, MP, May 22 (UNI) National Sample Survey Organisation teams would undertake tours of submergence-affected villages and rehabilitation sites in connection with the preparation of the Shunglu Committee report to be submitted to the Prime Minister's Office in the context of the Sardar Sarovar Project, official sources said. SMG Bank's fresh plans for expansion

Kozhikode, May 22 (UNI) Rural banking major South Malabar Gramin Bank (SMGB) posted net profit of Rs 17.04 crore and registered total business of Rs 2613 crore at 20 per cent growth rate in 2005-O6.
