JK High Court Division bench to hear sex racket case on Monday

Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today termed as ''fit to be treated as a public interest litigation (PIL)'', a petition on the sex racket filed by the Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) and referred it to the Chief Justice for appropriate action.

Justice Hakim Imtiyaz, who heard the KBA counsel in the case, referred the petition to Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan who in turn listed the case before a division bench on Monday as per the legal precedence.

Meanwhile, state Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya and Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma, who had to appear in court today in the hearing of case, were exempted from personal appearance after they filed an application in this regard.

However, the two senior officials were asked to appear before the court on Monday.

Earlier on May 9, the High Court had clubbed the PIL filed by the KBA on May one and suo moto cognisance of media reports about the sex racket taken by Justice Bashir Ahmed Kirmani and listed the matter for hearing on May 12.

More than 2,500 buildings in Capital not following fire safety rules

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken today said more than 2,500 highrise buildings in the Capital did not follow prescribed fire-safety rules. In reply to a question, the minister told the Lok Sabha that the Delhi Fire Service in its survey had found 2,506 buildings not adopting fire-safety measures as stated by law.
