V P Singh urges voters to ensure return of Left Front

Kolkata, May 1 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh today appealed to people of West Bengal to '' extend their whole-hearted support to the Left Front enabling it to form the government for the seventh successive term''.

In an open letter to the people, in the midst of five phase elections to the 294-member state Assembly, Mr Singh said the 29 years of Left Front rule in West Bengal '' symbolises the hopes and aspirations of the working people. It also established the democratic rights of the people and created an atmosphere of communal amity''.

Hailing the growth of industry as well as in infrastructural sectors in the state, Mr Singh said '' West Bengal is once again becoming one of the industrially advanced states''. Moreover, for over two decades it had acquired the top position in agricultural production.

In order to carry forward the progress, it was necessary that the Left Front was elected to office once again, Mr Singh in his appeal said.

Also recalling the ''important role'' of the Left at the Centre, the former Prime Minister said the victory of Left Front would also ensure that the ''struggle for democracy, secularism and alternative economic policies at the national level is carried forward with much vigour''.
