UGC sanctions 17 lakh for research project

Tirupati, May 1: University Grant Commission(UGC) has sanctioned Rs 17 lakh to Oriental Research Institute(ORI) of Sri Venkateswara Univeristy(SVU) for research project on Ramayana and devotional literature, here.

ORI sources said the first project was sanctioned to M Prabhakar Rao for comparative study of Ramayana written in four Dravidian languages with a grant of Rs 8.27 lakh.

The second research project has been awarded to C Govindaraju for comparative study of Vaishnava Bakthi Sahithyam(devotional literature) in Telegu, Tamil and Kannada, the sources added.

TOKYO, May 1: A teenage Japanese girl who gradually poisoned her mother into a coma while keeping a blog about her worsening health will be sent for treatment in a reformatory, a court official said today.The girl avoided a criminal trial after admitting attempting to murder her mother last year using thallium, sometimes found in rat poison, according to an official at the family court in Shizuoka, 150 km west of Tokyo.After the mother was taken to hospital.....
