Traders observe bandh against octroi collection contract at Sangli

Sangli, Maharashtra, May 1 (UNI) Traders from the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation jurisdiction today observed a bandh demanding the withdrawal of corporation's octroi collection contract given to a private company.

Traders Mahasangh had called the bandh in support of various organisations including hotels, restaurants, cloth markets and other business downed their shutters as part of the bandh.

The Traders Mahasangh President Atul Shahu claimed about 5,000 traders had joined the bandh and that it was total.

''We will continue with the bandh if the corporation does not withdraw the octroi contract,'' Mr Shahu said.

Meanwhile, contractor 'Shri Sai Trading Company' who has been given the contract, of octroi collection began octroi collection from all the octroi points since last midnight, corporation sources said.

Extra hour of polling during Rae Bareli bypoll

Lucknow, Apr 29 (UNI) An extra hour of polling has been appended to May Eight next bypoll to Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
