Ten die in paper mill fire at Uttaranchal

Dehra dun, May 1 (UNI) Ten people were killed and eight others injured in a fire at a paper mill at Kashipur in Udhamsing Nagar today.

The explosion occurred at the Sriram Paper Mill in the evening when a boiler containing sodium chloride brust into flames, the SSP Udhamsingh Nagar Amit Kumar Sinha and Disaster Management Mitigation Centre sources said.

The SSP told UNI no workers were trapped in the inferno.

State Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari has ordered magestrial inquiry of the incident and issued instructions to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.

Higher reaches experience moderate snowfall

Shimla, May 1 (UNI) The higher reaches in tribal areas of Lahaul Spiti and Pangi today experienced moderate snowfall. Mandi town and its surronding areas were lashed by a dust storm of velocity between 80 km and 90 km per hour, disrupting normal life. The storm was followed by moderate showers, which brought down the day's temperature. However, the storm caused extensive damage to fruit crops, uprooted trees and dusrupted the power supply. Woman and her 2 children electrocuted

Shahjahanpur, May 1 (UNI) A woman and her two minor children were electrocuted in the Kotwali area of the district today. Police said the kids were playing in their house in Bijlipura area when they accidently came in contact with a livewire. On hearing their cries, their mother Nagma (25) tried to rescue them, but was also electrocuted. A case had been registered. UNI XC-VS PR BST2123.....

Air Arabia launches Kochi flights

Kochi, May 1 (UNI) Air Arabia, the international low-cost airline based in the UAE, today launched its operations to Kochi as its third Indian destination. Heavy rush at Tirumala

Tirupati, May 1 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) introduced 'Mahalaghu Darshan' or distance darshan to cope up with the summer pilgrim rush. The TTD had already made some changes in the issue of cellar and VIP darshan tickets to avoid inconvenience to free darshan pilgrims waiting at the Vaikuntam queue complex. Forest clearance for Polavaram in 3 months: Minister

Anaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, May 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major and Medium Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah today expressed confidence that forest clearance for the Polavaram Project would be obtained in three months. Addressing presspersons, Mr Laxmaiah said work on the project had been only temporarly suspended.
