Satyendra Dubey murder: CBI files status report in SC

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed status report in the Supreme Court in sealed cover in respect of investigation of the murder of Satyendra Dubey who was killed in Bihar in 2005 for exposing corruption in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Golden Quadrilateral highway project.

Petitioner Parivartan, an NGO, in its PIL has alleged that CBI had not conducted proper investigation into the matter and no action had been taken against any of the officials, contractors of politicians involved in open loot of public funds.

It may be noted that Satyendra Dubey was Superintending engineer in the project and had lodged a complaint with the Prime minister with a request to keep his identity a secret for security reasons.

His identity was deliberately disclosed in a dubious manner and he had to pay with his life for exposing a scandal to the tune of about Rs 600 crores which was scandalously paid by the Bihar government to the contractors and others when the work on the project was yet to start.

Instead of taking any action against the corrupt indulging in the loot of public money, his murder is also being made out to be a case of simple robbery -cum- murder case.

The counsel for the petitioner Prashant Bhushan told the bench comprising Mr. Justice S.B. Sinha and Mr Justice P.K.

Balasubramanyan that CBI should be directed to conduct further investigation taking into account all angles as the possiblity of the involvement of the beneficiaries of the scandal could not be ruled out. The CBI has not investigated as to how the identity of the deceased Engineer was revealed despite his request to the contrary.

The court adjourned the hearing till Friday when the status report would be examined.

The young engineer was stabbed to death on a railway station in Bihar in January 2005.
