Pravin-Mahajan's booked for cheating

Mumbai, May 1 (UNI) Pravin Mahajan, who shot at his brother and BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan, was today booked for cheating and criminal breach of trust in another case under sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused is already in police custody since April 22 when he pumped three bullets into Mr Mahajan. His police remand expires on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old accused allegedly not only delivered only one of the two buses he had contracted to supply but also pocketed the insurance money when the bus met with an accident.

Uday Shankar Mishra in his complaint at the Dindoshi police stationn said he entered into a deal with Pravin for purchase of two tourist buses for Rs 17 lakh and paid half the amount on delivery of one bus. The accused refused to transfer ownership papers in spite of having received full payment for one bus, he added.

The complainant alleged when his bus met with an accident and he submitted an insurance claim, the cheque for Rs 1.58 lakh was made out by the insurance company in name of Pravin because ownership of the bus was in his name.

He alleged whenever he asked for the insurance money, Pravin threatened him by brandishing the name of his elder brother.

He said he had slapped a legal notice on Pravin last year but he did not bother to reply.

Mr Mishra's lawyer, V P Pande, said the case registered by Dindoshi police station today would be transferred to Navpada Police station in adjoining Thane district as the offence occurred in the latter's jurisdiction.
