Power supply to South, East Delhi hit as Badarpur plant trips

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Power supply to several areas of South and East Delhi was affected late this evening following the tripping of the Badarpur Thermal power station, which supplies electricity to a majority of these areas.

The problem occurred late this evening after the transformer of the Ballabhgarh substation of the plant developed a snag, leading to the tripping of the Ballabhgarh-Badarpur Line and, consequently, the Badarpur plant, sources in the Delhi Transco said.

As a result, power supply in several areas of South and East Delhi were affected, they said.

''The Badarpur plant supplies 630 MW of electricity to Delhi, most of which goes to South and East Delhi areas . Naturally, a snag in the plant affects supply to the areas,''the sources said.

The supply was, however, soon normalised to a large extent by diverting power from other lines to the affected areas.

The situation is likely to be completely normalised by late tonight with efforts on to rectify the snag in the Badarpur plant, the sources said.
