Meghalaya capital to get facelift under JNNURM

Shillong, May 1 (UNI) The Meghalaya capital Shilong has been included among 63 cities in the country to receive a facelift under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

About Rs 300 crore will be spent on development of the urban infrastructure in Shillong, while a total of Rs 100,000 crore will be utilised on the mission all over the country.

'' Shillong will be one of the 63 cities in the country to be developed under the mission. The scheme will be for seven years and the money will be released in phased manner, '' Chief Minister D D Lapang told newsmen here after a Cabinet meeting.

'' The money will be spent on improving the basic infrastructure in the city like roads, buildings, healthcare, electricity. Of the total expenditure, 90 per cent will come from the Central government and the state government will contribute the rest 10 per cent, '' he said.

'' We will start working on a master plan for implementing the project in the city and hopefully will soon be able to start the actual infrastructure improvement activities, '' said the Chief Minister.

DRDO seeks help to conserve endangered Horse Shoe Crab

Kendrapada, May 1 (UNI) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has sought the help of scientists of the Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography(NIO)to protect and research the endangered marine species horseshoe crabs spotted in the Orissa coast. The horseshoe crab, popularly called 'Ram Laxman' is considered one of the oldest marine species on earth. Allahabad bank revises FCNR interest rates

Kolkata, May 1 (UNI) Allahabad bank has revised the interest rates on Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) deposits and Non-Resident (External) Rupee (NRE) deposits from today. Accordingly the revised rates for US Dollar 5.33 per cent has now become from 5.29 per cent earlier for one year to less than two years, 5.34 per cent (earlier 5.29 per cent) for two years to less than three years, 5.35 per cent (earlier 5.27 per cent) for three.....

State Bank of Indore net profit Rs 139.11 cr

Indore, May 1 (UNI) The State Bank of Indore (SBI) reported a net profit of Rs 139.11 crore for 2005-06 compared to the previous fiscal's Rs 133.18 crore. The bank has been focussing on income growth from core operations. During the year, total interest income increased by 19 per cent from Rs 1,109.83 crore to Rs 1,322.69 crore and interest on advances registered 36 per cent growth -- an increase of Rs 224.52 crore, a release.....
