Maruti Alto, WagonR overtake Maruti 800

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Alto, WagonR, Zen and Swift came out be the hot selling cars from the Maruti Udyog stable, whereas the old favourite Maruti 800 was left behind in the race showing clearly the rising aspirations and purchasing power of the middle class.

Car market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd today announced registering a 12.9 per cent increase in its sales with 43,127 vehicles sold in April 2006 as compared to 38,190 vehicles in the same period last year.

Maruti's domestic sales showed a 12.4 per cent rise with 41,574 vehicles sold in the month as opposed to 36,972 vehicles in the corresponding period last year.

Sales of Alto, WagonR, Zen and Swift rose by an impressive 26.4 per cent whereas sales of old favourite Maruti 800 fell by 16.6 per cent this April as against the same period last year.

Maruti Udyog Ltd's exports stood at 1,553 units in the month, up by 27.5 per cent as compared to 1,218 units last year in the same period.

Sales of other models like Omni, Versa, Baleno and Esteem grew by 4.4 per cent during the month compared to sales in April 2005.

Reliance, ITC to set up private mandis in Uttaranchal

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Reliance and Tobacco major ITC are all set to foray into the agri-business in a big way in Uttaranchal with the state government offering bulk licences for setting up private mandis for a better deal to farmers. Uttaranchal Chief Secretary M Ramachandaran told UNI that the ITC and the Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Agro had shown keen interest in the project, which will provide a level-playing field to the government controlled.....

Banswara Syntex to export lycra based women-wear to US

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) Rajasthan based Banswara Syntex Ltd has bagged orders worth USD 287 million for export of lycra based high-end women-wear to the US. Talking to UNI, company's joint managing director Ravi Toshniwal said, ''Banswara Syntex would be exporting these fabrics at USD 4-4.5 per meter, which is double the rate of normal fabrics exported,'' adding, ''currently we are targeting the high-end career women-wear segment of US and later we may plan to.....

Silver, gold zoom up on bullish global advice

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) Prices of silver and gold zoomed up at Rs 20,550 per kg and Rs 9,610 per ten gm on bullish global advice, traders at the bullion market here today said. Silver .999 fineness variety opened higher at Rs 20,785 per kg on higher demand. Later, it closed at Rs 20,550 per kg with a gain of Rs 775 from its yesterday's close. There was better buying support from jewellery makers as sellers.....
