New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Delhi cabinet today decided to temporarily shift slum dwellers from Yamuna river bed to 25 acres of land in Savada Ghevra near Nangloi in West Delhi.
The decision follows an order of the Delhi High Court that the slum dwellers be removed and the polluted river be cleaned up.
According to an official spokesman, the slum dwellers would be shifted to Savada Ghevra as a temporary measure. They would eventually be shifted to multi-storeyed flats as per the new Government policy, he said.
The Slum and JJ Department has been instructed to prepare lay-out plan for 25 acres of land indicating internal roads and other spots for suitable basic amenities. It has also been told to develop land as Transit Camp at the earliest, he added.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also appealed to the UP Government to adopt a humanitarian attitude in relocation of slum (JJ) dwellers settled on their land at Yamuna River Bed, he said.
