IFTU to launch nation-wide protest against contract labour

Visakhapatnam, May 1 (UNI) There is an urgent to bring an end to the contract labour system, which is creating havoc in the lives of working class as they had lost their freedom and right to live,Indian Federation of Trade Unions General Secretary G Pradeep said here today.

Speaking at a May Day rally here, Mr Pradeep said the contract labour system which began in private sector was now being adapted widely in public sector industries and establishments as well and this led to an alarming reduction in regular work force.

The workers lost their freedom under the contract labour system and were condemned to virtually work as bonded labourers.

This system was the result of the globalisation process and new economic and industrial policies of the governments at the Centre.

This had forced the country to become over dependent on foreign capital resulting in the nation being forced to tow the line as dictated by imperialists.

Rallies, public meetings, processions and hoisting of red flag were also held on the day.

A report from Rajahmundry said the trade unions took out a rally today on the occasion of May Day.
