Heavy rush at Tirumala

Tirupati, May 1 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) introduced 'Mahalaghu Darshan' or distance darshan to cope up with the summer pilgrim rush.

The TTD had already made some changes in the issue of cellar and VIP darshan tickets to avoid inconvenience to free darshan pilgrims waiting at the Vaikuntam queue complex.

Yesterday, 70000 devotees had darshan at the main temple at Tirumala, sources said.

Many pilgrims queued up for accomodation at central reception office (CRO) near bus stand for allotment of cottages.

Forest clearance for Polavaram in 3 months: Minister

Anaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, May 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major and Medium Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah today expressed confidence that forest clearance for the Polavaram Project would be obtained in three months. Addressing presspersons, Mr Laxmaiah said work on the project had been only temporarly suspended. He claimed all the states in the country were taking "Jalayagnam" as a role model for providing water to farmers. The Minister said agreement with the contractors would be extended.....

Experimental playlet by song and drama division

Hyderabad, May 1 (UNI) The Hyderabad Departmental Drama Troupe of the Song and Drama Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has achieved yet another milestone in designing and producing experimental playlets. Recently, the troupe has produced 'Mundadugu', a playlet on the Common Minimum Programme of the Central Government, an official release here tonight said. The play is on the lines of Aladdin's wonderful lamp.The anchor narates the story of the characters as he releases each.....

UGC sanctions Rs 17 lakh for research project

Tirupati, May 1(UNI) University Grant Commission(UGC) has sanctioned Rs 17 lakh to Oriental Research Institute(ORI) of Sri Venkateswara Univeristy(SVU) for research project on Ramayana and devotional literature, here. ORI sources said the first project was sanctioned to M Prabhakar Rao for comparative study of Ramayana written in four Dravidian languages with a grant of Rs 8.27 lakh. The second research project has been awarded to C Govindaraju for comparative study of Vaishnava Bakthi Sahithyam(devotional literature).....

Derailment forces SR to cancel trains

Chennai, May 1 (UNI) The Southern Railway (SR) today announced the cancellation of eight trains following the derailment of nine wagons of a goods train at Chitheri on the Arakkonam-Katpadi section late last night. A Railway release here said the single line was restored this morning and all incoming trains coming via Jolarpet and Katpadi, expected to reach Chennai Central this morning, will arrive this afternoon. Except for some trains, all other trains would leave Chennai.....
