HC to hear R K Sharma's bail plea on May 4

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today advanced the hearing of prime accused suspended Haryana IPS officer R K Sharma's bail petition from May 23 to May 4, in the controversial Shivani Bhatnagar murder case.

Justice BD Ahmed granted the petitioners' plea to advance the hearing on May 4 as the bail petitions of other accused would also come up for hearing on the same day.

Other accused - Pradeep Sharma, Sri Bhagwan, Satya Prakash, Ved Prakash Sharma and Ved alias Kalu - had also moved their bail applications before the court.

They are all facing trial in the murder of Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar, found murdered at her East Delhi apartment on January 23, 1999.

SC allows withdrawal of PIL against making begging offence

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today permitted a 60-year- old petitioner to withdraw his PIL challenging the validity of the Bombay Prevention of Begging Act 1959 (BPBA) making begging a criminal offence. 'Plans of under construction building can't be refused by MCD'

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) In a ruling which could have wide ramifications for checking unauthorised constructions in the capital, the Municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD) was today directed by the Public Grievances Commission to provide a copy of the sanctioned plan of a building under construction in Karol Bagh in central Delhi. The commission's direction to the MCD came in response to a complaint that the MCD had refused to supply to the complainant.....

SC permits withdrawal of petition on reservation issue

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today permitted a petitioner, who filed a public interest petition (PIL) challenging the 93rd constitutional amendment which also provides reservation in admissions to private institutions, to withdraw the petition. A division bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal and Justice A K Mathur, however, granted liberty to the petitioner VOICE, an NGO, to approach the court when the situation demanded.
