Govt stresses on 'active bias' in favour of poor

Shillong, Mar 1 :  Meghalaya government has stressed on the need of an 'active bias' in favour of the poor to take the benefit of the developmental schemes to the deserving people.

"There has been a lack of accountability on part of the government machinery and the benefits of the developmental schemes are not reaching the deserving people. To encounter this, we need to have an active bias in favour of the poor people of the state," Meghalaya Chief Secretary S K Tiwari said here today, while inaugurating a five-day workshop on 'E-Governance: Trends and Practices'.

The workshop, organised by the National Informatics Center (NIC) and sponsored by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), aims to update officials from different departments on the use of Information Technology for better implementation of the developmental schemes.

"The policymakers and the officials need to have accountability to the odd 70 per cent people who do not have access to the services provided by us and who do not have the means to claim these services. Information Technology should be used to bring about that accountability to the government mechanism," he said.
