Flying squad to ensure sale of genuine BT cotton seed

Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) The Haryana government has consituted a flying squad led by Joint Director (Cotton) to ensure the sale of genuine BT cotton seeds in the state.

Stating this here today, Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha exhorted the farmers to purchase seeds from the licenced seed shops and obtain a sale bill from the shop concerned.

He said in order to ensure the availability of high quality of certified seeds to the farmers during the Kharif-2006, the Agriculture Department in Haryana had a stock of 1.20 lakh quintals of certified seeds for sale through government, cooperative and non-government agencies.

Mr Chatha said the present stock of certified seeds was 33,000 quintals more than the previous year's stock.

Giving the details of the certified seeds for Kharif-2006, the Minister said that 71044 quintal of rice, 23549 quintal of cotton, 248 quintal of high breed cotton, 3698 quintal of bajra, 5120 quintal of moong, 276 quintal of gawar, 555 quintal of peanuts, 23 quintal of til, 1300 quintal of maize, 150 quintal of jawar and 456 quintal of Dhencha seeds were available in the stock.

He said the state government was providing subsidy on the certified seeds to the tune of Rs 200, Rs 800 and Rs 2000 per quintal on rice, pulses or oil seeds and cotton respectively.

Kaithal leads in wheat procurement in Haryana
