BJP condemns Suryanarayan's murder by Taliban

Kolkata, May 01: Expressing shock and dismay at the gruesome killing of an Indian engineer by Taliban extremists in Afghanistan, the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded strong action by the Centre to "bring a permanent end to such menace".

"Such brutal action against innocent Indian civilians has once again proved the failure of the foreign policy, persued by the UPA government towards Afghanistan", party's state president Tathagata Roy commented here today.

Condemning the murder of Indian Engineer K.Suryanarayana by the Taliban guerillas yesterday after he was kidnapped by them near Herat on Friday last, Mr Roy felt that the Indian government should have been more cautious about the extremist danger in Afghanistan and should have taken proper steps to safeguard the lives of its people after the murder of another Indian national and seven Nepalis.

He was also very critical of the role of a section of Indian intellectuals and charged them with being "biased and volte face".

"They should have condemned the murder of Indian nationals by the Taliban guerillas in the same fashion as they did during the Gujarat killing", Mr Roy said.
