Asom observe May day

Guwahati, May 1 (UNI) Asom today observed May day throughout the state with various trade unions observing day-long programmmes.

Most of the public transport and business establishment were closed as everyone joined the programmes observing the May Day.

Several processions, small meetings took place both at Guwahati and in neighbouring towns.

The central function took place at Judge's field, where various trade unions like CITU, AITUC, UTUC(LS), LIC and bank union and Asom government employees.

Meghalaya capital to get facelift under JNNURM

Shillong, May 1 (UNI) The Meghalaya capital Shilong has been included among 63 cities in the country to receive a facelift under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Congress expresses serious concern over blowing up police picket

Ranchi, May 1 (UNI) The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee(JPCC) has expressed serious concern over blowing up of a police picket by naxalite at Pirthand in Giridih district yesterday and alleged that proscribed Maoists were running a parallel administration in the state. Kendrapada, May 1 (UNI) The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has sought the help of scientists of the Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography(NIO)to protect and research the endangered marine species horseshoe crabs spotted in the Orissa coast. Allahabad bank revises FCNR interest rates

Kolkata, May 1 (UNI) Allahabad bank has revised the interest rates on Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) deposits and Non-Resident (External) Rupee (NRE) deposits from today. Accordingly the revised rates for US Dollar 5.33 per cent has now become from 5.29 per cent earlier for one year to less than two years, 5.34 per cent (earlier 5.29 per cent) for two years to less than three years, 5.35 per cent (earlier 5.27 per cent) for three.....
