Akhilesh Singh gets 7-year RI for bid on cop's life

Jamshedpur,May 1 (UNI) A fast track court today sentenced criminal Akhilesh Singh and his associate Santosh Gupta to seven years rigorous imprisonment.

Both were found guilty in a shootout incident against Arvind Kumar, the then officer-in-charge of Burmamines police station at Bara flat in Sidhgora area on June 20, 2002.

The court had convicted the duo on April 28 under IPC 307,353 and arms act 34 and 27 and reserved the judgement for today.

Besides, RI for seven years, the court also pronounced one year imprisonment under 353 IPC and three years jail and Rs 10,000 fine or else six years additional imprisonment under the arms act,which would run concurrently.

Singh, who has already been awarded life imprisonment for murdering the jailor of Sakchi jail, was brought here under tight security arrangement from Ranchi central jail on April 28.

Countrywide raids against firms misusing ISI mark

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards has conducted countrywide raids against companies misusing the ISI mark, a statement by the BIS said today. Centre asks Guj govt to take steps to control Vadodara situation

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) The Centre today directed the Gujarat government to take steps to bring the communal situation under control in Vadodara district of the state. Home Secretary V K Duggal spoke to Gujarat chief secretary G Suba Rao and other officials to seek details of the incident. Power supply to South, East Delhi hit as Badarpur plant trips

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Power supply to several areas of South and East Delhi was affected late this evening following the tripping of the Badarpur Thermal power station, which supplies electricity to a majority of these areas. The problem occurred late this evening after the transformer of the Ballabhgarh substation of the plant developed a snag, leading to the tripping of the Ballabhgarh-Badarpur Line and, consequently, the Badarpur plant, sources in the Delhi Transco.....
