UDF indulges in false propaganda: Achuthanandan

Kannur (Kerala), Apr 30 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly V S Achuthanandan today said that the false propaganda of UDF leaders that the LDF was opposed to development had been exposed in the first and second phase of the Kerala Assembly elections held on April 22 and 29.

Participating in a Meet-the-Press programme of the Press Club, he alleged under the guise of development the UDF government was favouring certain sections to exploit the state's natural resources.

Mr Achuthanandan said the LDF had succeeded in thwarting the "anti-democratic" and "anti-people policies" of the UDF government by conducting agitations during the last five years.

He said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy refused to quit office on moral grounds despite the UDF's series of defeats in the by-elections and local body polls held in the state.

Mr Achuthanandan claimed that the LDF would get celear majority after the third phase of elections and would be able to form the next government.

He said as promised in the LDF manifesto, it would work for the uplift of the poor sections and ensure the state's development.

Asked about the UDF's claim of a growth rate of 9.2 per cent, he said the state's public debt had crossed Rs 31,000 crore. The UDF failed to provide compensation and relief package to the farmers, he added.
