Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) Deprived of their livelihood following the ban on use of posters and polls graffitis, about three lakh members of the Tamil Nadu State Artists Association (TNSAA) have decided to 'boycott' the May eight assembly elections.
All the members of the TNSAA were eligible voters.
In a petition to the Election Commission, the TNSAA said the members were forced to take such a decision to register their protest, as election-time was the most lucrative season for them to earn money.
Official sources said the ban was only in urban areas and municipal corporations.
The Association argued that election was the time during which artists could earn about Rs 100 to Rs 150 for poll graffiti. They might even earn more than Rs 1000 per day.
But the ban on poll posters, banners and wall-writings had deprived them of their livelihood, the TNSAA added.
