Software Architecture gaining ground in India

Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) Moving away from the multitude of developers world, India is slowly picking up software architecture seen as a blueprint for aligning business goals with Information Technology investments.

Though software Architects account for only around one per cent of the total IT manpower in India as against ten per cent in the West, the importance was gaining ground as more companies were looking beyond software developers, realising software architecture as a critical element for practical vision of the IT System.

ICMC Chief Executive Officer Sunil Dutt Jha and Compuware Partner Manager M S Udaya Ravi told UNI that organisations that use architecture frameworks could reduce costs of over 500 million US Dollars and increase the opportunities to collaborate with partners across the multiple market segments and cross geographical boundaries.

Mr Jha said as India was gearing up to become the base for product development firms and new technology companies, there was a need for a new breed of professionals in Software architecture to provide more value addition to the IT Consumers and help them save considerably in maintenance cost, besides providing parallel technology and business models so that they could work independently.

They said the software industry had matured enough in the country to focus on software architecture.

While the state of the software industry seem to be on a positive upward trend, a high rate of failed projects could still benefit from the improvements that educated, knowledgeable software architects bring to the software development process, according to experts Thomas J Mowbray and Raphael Malveau.

Mr Jha said software architectural tools were decoupled from development process.
