Seminar on Agrucutural products to be held on May 22

Rajkot, Apr 30 (UNI) Scientists and Agricultural experts will participate in a seminar on Agricultural products which is scheduled to be held here on May 22, as a part of state's Krishi Mahotasav.

Speaking at a press conference here on friday District Development Officer (DDO) M A Naramwala said experts would focus on value addition agricultural products and how to utilise balancing crop patterns with scientific methods so that it would help raise their incomes.

Giving details about the Krishi Mahotsav (Farm Festival), Mr Naramwala said main object behind this Mahotsav is to create awareness among the farmers and to get knowledge of how they can make optimal use of available resources and to reduce their production costs.

Last year's Krishi Moahotsav had helped raise the crop production, he said. It is not only to focus on agricultural production but also create awareness about the Horticulture and animal husbandry.

Mr Narmwala said, during one month Krishi Mahotsav, 4,770 soil-health cards would be distributed among the farmers after taking soil samples from villages, he said.

Horticulture department would distribute 862 books of agricultural guidlines to the farmers in the district, Deputy Director of Horticulture R K Kathrotia said.

About 500 selected women from 14 talukas of this district will be trained to preserve Jam, Jelly, pickles and vegitables, Mr Kathrotia said.

During this Mahotsav, 13,000 agricultural-kits would be distributed among the farmers.

Krishi-Rath would cover 862 villages of this district in a one-month Krishi Mahotsav, Mr Narmwala said.

15 injured in post poll violence

Barasat, May 1 (UNI) At least 15 people were injured in a post poll clash between the Congress and the CPI(M) supporters late last night at Bawgachi in North 24 Parganas. The Congress has called a 24-hour bandh in the area today. The injured were taken to Habra state general hospital, where five people were admitted. Senior police officers, including sub-divisional police officer S M H Mirza has rushed to the Habra area.....

500th overhaul MI 17 chopper handed over to IAF

Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) Air Marshal K S Chaturvedi, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, today released the 500th overhaul MI-17 helicopter which was produced by 3 Base Repair Depot (3 BRD)of the Air Force here. He handed over the helicopter to Wing Commander K Allen, Commanding Officer of 127 helicopter unit at the 3 BRD, an official reelase here said. The helicopter was manufactured in February 12,1987 and inducted in the IAF on February.....

Rail blockades in Habra

Barasat, May 1 (UNI) Congress supporters today disrupted train services in Habra of the Sealdah section in support of their 24-hour bandh, protesting the clash with CPI(M) supporters late last night at Bawgachi in North 24 Parganas district. Police today arrested two Congress supporters for allegedly forcing shopkeepers to close their shops. At least 15 people were injured in the post poll clashes. The injured were admitted.....
